HSFL Division 3 - St Ippolyts Reserves 0 - 1 Kimpton Rovers
The latest incarnation of Kimpton Rovers got their league campaign off to a victorious start away at St Ippolyts Reserves with a third minute goal being the only difference between the two very competitive sides.
The visitors got off to the perfect start when Cameron Swinburn latched onto a Tom Hills pass, that caused confusion between defender and keeper allowing the Rovers striker to lift the ball over the pair and into the unguarded net.
Kimpton took that single goal lead into the break with the home side creating only a couple of chances of note, both thwarted by the visitors veteran keeper Russ Paine. Rovers disappointingly lost goalscorer Swinburn to injury around the half hour mark, Ali Mouatassem replacing him on the quest for further goals.
After the restart the game became an extremely tight affair, being played mainly around the middle of the park. Twenty minutes from time the home side did find the back of the net with a stunning bicycle kick, but unfortunately the whistle had already gone for offside.
As far as goal attempts went that was the final one of the game with neither keeper being troubled further and Kimpton held out to bag the three points.
Captain Alex Jode was voted Meyer Office Solutions Player of the Match, though it was a very close-run thing with every Rovers player giving everything they had, especially the defence who, to a man, stood strong and limited the Ipps to very few attempts on goal.
