After suffering a hefty defeat a week ago the visitors were looking to bounce back and against the early run of play they opened the scoring. The home side failed to clear a corner from the left and the ball was smashed home from nine yards. Within two minutes Rovers were level when a poor kick out from the visiting keeper went straight to Liam Thomas, who controlled and then lobbed the ball over the stranded stopper. Just four minutes later the hosts took the lead, when captain Alex Jode’s powerful shot from twenty-two yards flew high into the net giving the keeper no chance. That lead was extended further before the break when Thomas once again was gifted the ball and showed fabulous composure to take the ball across the path of the defender and fire home into the far corner of the net.

The second half was a much tighter affair with DES bursting into the Rovers half on several occasions, but once again, the Kimpton back line were impervious to any penetration and the chance of a shot on goal. At the other end Tom Hills was unlucky not to open his account for the season, only a fine stop from Rylee Perry-Temple in the visitors goal preventing the lead being extended. Shortly after however, Harrison Moore opened his account with a stunning first time shot from just outside the box. As the clock ran down a couple of free kicks a few yards outside the box were the only chances the visitors had of clawing back the deficit but both came to nothing and on the counter attack of the second of those, Kimpton forced a corner resulting in Lewis McCarthy smashing the ball into the net after the first two attempts were blocked. All said and done it was a comfortable victory for the villagers, who secured a place in the second round.
