HSFL Division 3 Cup - Ashwell FC 2-0 Kimpton Rovers
Kimpton Rovers waved goodbye to any possibility of cup glory this season as they slipped out of the Division Three cup at the first hurdle.
Once again it was good goalscoring opportunities wasted that cost the villagers dear. Rovers really should have taken a lead into the break after a well battled first forty-five but the game remained goalless.
After the restart the game continued in a closely fought manner before the home side broke the deadlock and eased ahead thanks to an unlucky own goal. The visitors had several chances to get level but a mix of saves and wayward finishes kept the hosts ahead. The all-important next goal continued to elude Kimpton and the game was put beyond doubt a few minutes before the end when a corner from the left was headed home unchallenged. In the end it just wasn’t to be the visitor’s day, this was proved inextricably when they were awarded a penalty in the final seconds of the game only to see the home keeper save Tom Hills’s strike.
